Hey everyone! I'm so excited about the May 2015 limited edition releases from Shiro Cosmetics! In this post I'll be showing you the Color of the Month for May (Is MAYonnaise An Instrument?) and the shade celebrating Shiro's five year anniversary (Five Years, Stuck On My Eyes). Congratulations, Shiro team!
Disclosure note: Both shades shown in this post were press samples kindly provided by the brand.
Also, we're still playing around with swatch layout so let us know if you have any thoughts about this version in the comments!

Personal Comments: Five Years is absolutely stunning (and who can resist a shadow inspired by David Bowie?), and Caitlin mentioned it's one of the team's all-time favorite colors. As gorgeous as it is, I have to admit I found it a little finicky to work with. In fact, this shade is reminding me an awful lot of one of the weirdest eyeshadows I've tried - No Men Like Me, also by Shiro. It's got a really similar effect that changes pretty dramatically depending on what base you use and how you physically apply it.
The base color is a beautiful foggy concrete gray, and it's accented by a ton of fairly large copper glitter. The shadow actually applies most consistently over bare skin; the gray and copper seem pretty evenly balanced that way. Over silicone primer the gray base really stands out, and the copper sparkles are scattered throughout but most apparent at the edges of the swatch. Over silicone primer and a sticky base, the copper sparkles become the stars of the show... unless you pack or buff it on a lot, in which case the base color takes the lead and darkens a bit. I should also note that I see some pinky-purple sparkles throughout the shadow, especially over a sticky base, but the brilliant copper glitter is definitely the most eye-catching part of this shadow by far.
On the eyes, this blends out into a beautiful cool-toned gray-leaning taupe, which you can see in my crease in the eye look below. Unfortunately, applying it with a blending brush seems to scatter the copper glitter all over my cheeks! However, I loved using it over a sticky base in my inner corner to bring out the copper glitter. When I use this shade in future eye looks, I will almost certainly use it over a sticky base as the star of the show rather than as a transition shade. I'm delighted to have such a unique and gorgeous shade, but will probably stick to using it when I have a little extra time to play with it and make sure it applies perfectly.
Personal Comments: Oh man, this shade was love at first swatch. When fully built up it's a vibrant orange with enough red or pink to it that my eyes read it as an orange-leaning coral. The base color reminds me a lot of Shiro's Gelato Beach blush, actually, which could explain why I immediately fell head over heels for it.
Over bare skin the base color is a little sheer, and it's packed full of tiny green shimmer and slightly larger, less densely packed fuchsia glitter. Over a silicone base the base color becomes pretty much opaque and the shimmer and glitter appear about the same as they do over bare skin. But I think this shadow really shines over a silicone primer and a sticky base, because the green shimmers coalesce into a gorgeous lime green overlay that flows across the shadow as I rotate my arm in the sunlight. The fuchsia glitters seem denser and pack more of a punch over a sticky base as well. As I write this, I'm sitting here rotating my arm in the sun, totally mesmerized by this shadow.

As with Five Years this one had some fallout, but otherwise performed really nicely. It was easy to build up and pull out the green highlight over a sticky base, and it also blended out nicely on my lower lashline.
I did an eye look using just these two shades. It's an unusual color pairing, but it let me test out both shades at once:
I started with my usual combo of Urban Decay Primer Potion and Detrivore Ossuary as a base shadow.
I blended Five Years through the crease and patted MAYonnaise across the lid, then added Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy across the lower half of my mobile lid as well as my inner corner. I patted more MAYonnaise over the PE on my lid and blended it along my lower lash line and finished by patting Five Years over the PE in my inner corner for that beautiful copper highlight.
Despite Five Years' application quirks, I think these are both really cool eyeshadows with very interesting finishes and effects. I love that the Shiro team keeps experimenting with unusual products, and I'm always excited to see what they come up with next! Speaking of which, I'm out of town for the weekend but will post about the new Animal Crossing collection as quickly as I can next week. Stay tuned!
