Forget eye of newt, this witch is cooking something way better!

If you live in North America, you're probably gearing up for Thanksgiving in the next day or two. Whether you're hosting, cooking, or just vacating as much room in your stomach as possible for maximum feasting, I think many Americans have happy memories of a warm home swirling with yummy scents this time of year. And while there's no indie perfume (to my knowledge) that smells like turkey, Witch's Cottage from Solstice Scents does a pretty close job capturing that special sort of tasty coziness that comes with good food, loving company, and a warm home.

Witch's Cottage
Full size: 0.35oz glass roll-on bottle for $15.00
Warm Baked Goods, Dried Herbs, Sweet Annie, Soft Woods, Fragrant Hearth Smoke
Upon entering the Witch's Cottage you are greeted with fresh and dried herbs, chamomile flowers, rosemary sprigs, Sweet Annie, Davana and a hint of crisp apples. A warm undercurrent of luscious baked goods, sweet buns and candied pralines emerges and is followed by mild fragrant woods and sweet hearth smoke. Witch's Cottage fragrance is a true journey with loads of atmosphere.
I originally hated Witch's Cottage, no joke. I was expecting breaded sugary pastries and was initially turned off by the opening notes because they so radically different from my expectations. Instead of baked goods, you're greeted with fresh herbs, particularly the rosemary and chamomile. I love drinking chamomile tea, and rosemary is so relaxing and soothing. Perhaps the witch is luring you in a-la Hansel and Gretel, but I like to imagine a granny-esque figure, beckoning you inside to sit by the fire while she puts the kettle on.

After about 15-20 minutes the herbs ease up. Perhaps you've finished drinking your tea and you've burrowed down into an oversized, snuggly blanket and are watching the fire. Granny Witch is definitely not finished though, when was the last time she had visitors? It's snack time! Spiced brown sugar, something faintly fruity, but dried, not juicy. I'm reminded of a glazed bundt cake my father used to make with almonds and dried apple pieces.

Duration: Like most Solstice Scents fragrances, Witch's Cottage is definitely robust! Sometimes I still pick it up on my skin 12 hours and a shower later in the same day! I rarely have any complaints with Solstice Scents when it comes to longevity, and Witch's Cottage is no exception.

Score: 4/5
I love how Witch's Cottage "wraps up" - none of the earlier elements truly "die", instead things sort of unfold and blend together. A soft, spiced, woodsy smoke  curls around the brown sugar. Woodsy and herbal with a touch of smoke and a twinge of sweetness, Witch's Cottage is an impeccable late-autumn blend that takes you places and puts you in a cozier frame of mind.  I don't find myself reaching for it often because it's not my style of scent, but when I want to experience that special sort of mood I know Witch's Cottage can pull it off!
