Hey everyone! Today I'd like to share my swatches and review of DreamWorld Hermetica's Medieval eyeshadow collection, which is made up of nine incredibly pigmented semi-loose shadows. I see two major selling points on these shades: first, the swatches below were all done over bare skin, no primer. Seriously, these are some of the most pigmented shadows I own. And second, they take on a foiled appearance without needing to apply them wet or over a sticky base. If you're a fan of applying your loose shadows wet or over a sticky base, I strongly recommend picking up some of these shades to give them a try.

Let's have a look at the swatches!

From the website: deep jewel green

Not lip safe

Ingredients: Magnesium Myristate, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510),  Chromium Green Oxides (CI 77288, CI 77289)

Personal Comments: Carman has a dark green base with a ton of mid-tone forest green shimmers. The macro doesn't look quite as intense as the full swatch, but rest assured this is a smooth, rich color in person!

From the website: deep purple with blue undertones

Not lip safe

Ingredients: Magnesium Myristate, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510)

Personal Comments: Dearg Due has a charcoal gray base with a ton of dark, cool-toned purple sparkles on top. I'm not sure how well it shows here, but this leans toward royal purple in person, so it might be a good alternative for anyone who missed out on Shiro's Nightfury Color of the Month.

From the website: deep mauve with lavender undertones

Lip safe

Ingredients: Zinc Stearate, Kaolin Clay, Tin Oxide, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510)

Personal Comments: With the utmost respect to the fabulous creator Ellie, I have to disagree with the site description - Grendel's Mother is a serious hot pink to my eyes! It has a moderate sparkly light blue duochrome which was too shy to show up in the photo.

From the website: deep purple with brownish undertones

Lip safe

Ingredients: Cetyl Dimethicone, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492)

Personal Comments: To my eyes, Leanan Sidhe is a rich milk chocolate brown with subtle pink sparkles. They don't make the shadow look pink so much as they warm up the base color.

From the website: soft gold that shifts to bluish white

Lip safe

Ingredients: Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510)

Personal Comments: Mistletoe is white gold or very light yellowy tan with a very strong, reflective, bright silver-white duochrome. What a stunner! It's hard to tell if the base color is on the more sheer side or if it just blends in with my skin tone. The formula was a little off on this one - it was almost a little too wet, so it wanted to clump a bit instead of going smooth. However, it was not so troublesome that I'd recommending against purchasing. Just expect a bit more effort when you use it.

From the website: deep reddish plum

Lip safe

Ingredients: Cetyl Dimethicone, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492)

Personal Comments: Mysterious Island looks to be in the same family as Leanan Sidhe, but it's a couple shades darker and has more more pink/red in it.

From the website: a deep jeweled blue

Not lip safe

Ingredients: Magnesium Myristate, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510)

Personal Comments: Sluagh has a rich navy base with a lightly metallic cobalt overlay. As with Carman, the macro looks less intense than the standard swatch, but from normal viewing distance it's a rich, smooth, opaque shadow.

From the website: soft pink that shifts to green and back again!

Lip safe

Ingredients: Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492)

Personal Comments: Sonnet is crazy pretty! It's the lightest most delicate ballerina pink (perhaps with a touch of tan?) and it has a very strong white gold duochrome. The duochrome is most apparent to view, with the base color only showing up where my arm curves away from the light. After reading the description I can see just a bit of light green tinting the white gold, but it's not a strong effect.

From the website: deep pink

Lip safe

Ingredients: Zinc Stearate, Kaolin Clay, Tin Oxide, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isododecane, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica -- May contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI  77491, CI 77492)

Personal Comments: Windsong is a subdued pink-red with a lightly metallic finish. It's a very spring-y shade, but I don't think it's quite into coral territory.

I want to touch on application. I have some trouble blending these; as you'd imagine from the more "wet" formula, these don't blend out like your average powder shadow. I recommend using these in the same way I suggest using shadows over a sticky base - that is, do a base layer with powder shadows and get all your blending done, then add these semi-loose shadows on top as an accent.

In general, these really shine when used in precise placements. The lighter two shades make beautiful inner corner highlights, and the darker colors are awesome to use as liners. Here's my favorite way to wear the darker colors in this collection:

To create this eye look, I applied a silicone primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion) from lashline to brow, then added a layer of a shadow close to my skin tone (Detrivore Porcelain) over the same area.

I added a little bit of definition to the crease with a color a shade or two darker than my skin tone (Detrivore Ossuary) and blended that out.

Then I picked up an angled eyeliner brush and dipped it very lightly into the lid of Leanan Sidhe from this DreamWorld collection. You only need the tiniest amount, and for precise work like this, I find it's easiest to load my brush from the layer of product in the lid rather than trying to squish up one of the little balls in the jar.

I finished off by tightlining and applying mascara, then completely forgot to do my brows.

It's a simple look, and it's even easier to do than it looks! I'm a total liner noob, but so long as I use a liner brush and work in short strokes, I find it incredibly easy to get really crisp lines with these semi-loose shadows.
