Alchimia Apothecary's classic red with a cocoa twist!

One thing that sets indie cosmetics apart from more mainstream offerings is the opportunity to find uncommon colors. Blue, black, purple lipsticks are pretty exciting for many indie customers. And rightly so - how novel! But if you're a boring fart like me who covets their safe neutrals, or perhaps you work in a conservative environment, sometimes having your trusty staples available is a comfort. Luckily, Alchimia Apothecary's got you covered with a classic red crafted with an exquisitely rich formula.

Bare lips vs. Elata lipstick
Elata
Alchimia Apothecary Lipstick
This reminds me of the classic red lipstick that's been around since the beginning of time, making ladies even more beautiful than they already are.
This color is named after a plant that ties right into that. Psychotria Elata, named more commonly "The Hot Lips Flower." I couldn't think over anything more perfect for this fabulous shade.

Erin tucked a tube of Elata into my package a while back when I realized there was something from an earlier order that had been left out. Not only was she excellent at responding back pretty much immediately, but the full-sized freebie item was a tremendous surprise!

Elata is not a color I'd normally pick for myself. Even though I love more traditional colors, it still seemed too deep and bright on the website for my liking. Elata is a gorgeous, rich red - excellent for a swanky night out! (Or clowns, if you ask my father...)  I'm so glad she snuck it in though because I'd have never known what I was missing! The first thing that struck me right away was the scent. This stuff smells like creamy chocolate! It's not the slickest or slipperiest formula, but it's also not rough or gritty either.

Created with natural cocoa butter, cupuacu butter filled with restructuring benefits, fast drying camellia seed oil that is great for restructuring damaged or mature skin, vitamin packed apricot kernel oil, beautiful smelling Monoi de Tahiti oil and pomegranate sterols.
Pomegranate sterols are a wonderful alternative to lanolin, or synthetic based petroleum oils. It is fantastic for moisture as well, as it can hold up to twice it's weight in water while still retaining it's barrier function.

I had to look up a couple of those ingredients, but there's no denying that this formula is quite the powerhouse. I was really impressed with how well the color held up on my lips throughout the afternoon. It feels like it seals in the moisture so my lips aren't drying out the longer I wear it. The picture at the top of the post features my lips after 3 hours + tea time, and if a lipstick can pass tea time that's good enough for me! It definitely stains a bit so it's better to test this out first if you're not sure this color is for you.
