Hey everyone! As always, a new month means a new Color of the Month from Shiro Cosmetics. For the second month in a row, a gloss won out over the eyeshadow suggestions aaaaand long story short, now you can buy Nic Cage's face on another Shiro product!

Disclosure notes: The Nic Cage gloss was a press sample provided by the brand for consideration. I purchased the Wildflowers gloss myself.

Let's take a look at the newest member of the Shiro x Nic Cage family:

From the website: April’s Color of the Month is a fabulous new lip gloss: Nic Cage Dyeing Eggs on a Sunny Green Spring Morning! Suggestion by Lindsey J.B.

Pale cool pink with a pearlescent shift and soft blue glitter. About halfway between sheer and moderate opacity, may be built up fairly well. Flavored like sweet strawberry marshmallow peeps!

Price is for one 15-mL doefoot tube.

Ingredients: hydrogenated polyisobutene, ethylene/propylene/styrene copolymer, butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer, meadowfoam seed oil, cocoa butter, mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, tin oxide, calcium aluminum borosilicate, silicon dioxide, red #33, castor oil, vitamin E, flavor.

Personal Comments: Normally I have trouble with cool pinks due to my warm undertones, but this one is sheer enough that it mixes with my natural lip color and looks perfectly harmonious on. My eyes keep trying to convince me the base color leans a bit lavender too, for what it's worth. The finish looks more frosty than pearlescent to my eyes. The light blue sparkles are really pretty and flash subtly in the tube, but I don't see them too much on the lips unless I get quite close to the mirror or stand in direct sunlight. In the tube it smells like syrupy strawberry, but once I get it on my lips it suddenly starts smelling like white chocolate to my nose.

As you might expect from such a light, sheer color, I'm finding this gloss doesn't wear as long on me as Shiro's other glosses do. I get an average of 2-3 hours of wear out of Shiro's glosses, but I tested this a few times and found it was pretty much gone by 1.5 hours after application. I also noticed it tended to thin down and hug my lips closely around 45-60 minutes after application. The wear time was reduced even further when I tested it while drinking out of a water bottle.

Here's a quick comparison to my most similar gloss, which is a custom Shiro gloss using the Wildflowers eyeshadow in moderate opacity:

Shiro custom gloss in Wildflowers on top, Shiro Nic Cage Dyeing Eggs... gloss on bottom
To summarize: this gloss is really easy to wear because it's sheer enough to meld with your natural lip color, and I find Shiro's glosses to be super comfortable. Plus, both the color and the label art are downright fun! However, I would recommend asking yourself whether you're comfortable with a frostier finish and a relatively short wear time before purchasing.

  1. I know this is a little late, but how do you like your Wildflowers gloss?

    1. Honestly... I'm not a fan. I love Shiro's gloss formula, but the trouble with the custom gloss mixes is the sparkly shadows turn into downright frosty lip glosses. I'm not generally a fan of frosty finishes on my lips so I don't really reach for it unfortunately!
