Hey everyone! A new month means a new Color of the Month from Shiro Cosmetics. We usually get a couple new limited edition eyeshadows from Detrivore Cosmetics each month as well, but it looks like Distorria is taking a break for February. Distorria, I hope all's well with you, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!

Disclosure notes: The Blood of My Enemies was a press sample from the company. I purchased all other products shown in this post.

HA, the tyranny of the eyeshadow is over! Shiro's Color of the Month program has been running for a while now, but for the very first time, a gloss rather than an eyeshadow reigns supreme. The shade is called The Blood of My Enemies (suitable for Valentine's Day, naturally) and is pretty awesome. Let's take a look!

From the website: “Oh my gosh, I love your lip color, what are you wearing?”

February 2015’s Color of the Month is our very first non-shadow to win the poll! Deep, incredibly opaque rust gloss with delicious caramel-nutmeg flavor. Suggestion by Aarika S.

Price is for one 15-mL doefoot tube!

Ingredients: hydrogenated polyisobutene, ethylene/propylene/styrene copolymer, butylene/ethylene/styrene copolymer, meadowfoam seed oil, cocoa butter, iron oxide, mica, titanium dioxide, tin oxide, vitamin E.

Personal Comments: Though the ingredients list looks really close to Shiro's other glosses, The Blood of My Enemies looks and feels more like a lip lacquer. It's quite opaque and not super glossy. Between this and Justin Time from the new Battle of the Boy Bands line, I'm really excited to see the Shiro team experimenting with these densely pigmented, lip-hugging glosses!

The color is a rusty medium red with no shimmer or glitter. It smells like very sweet caramel to my nose, reminiscent of a caramel calorie bomb from your local coffee shop. It feathered a little outside my lip line shortly after application (see the lip swatch above) though I'm starting to think my lips are prone to this. Both swatches above were done on bare skin with no anti-feathering measures taken. I haven't had a chance to do a proper longevity test on this gloss yet, but I can say Shiro's glosses usually last 2-3 hours on me despite my constant snacking and drinking. I would expect this one to hold on a little longer since it's more opaque, but I'll have to report back when I've given it a proper test drive.

I did some comparison swatches with a few of Shiro's other glosses:

Shiro glosses from top to bottom: Nic Cage Nibbling Petit Fours..., This Is Halloween, The Blood of My Enemies, Red Wedding, Figgy Pudding
Each of these swatches is one thin layer of gloss - one pull from the tube for the full sizes, and my best attempt at a similar amount from the Nic Cage clamshell. I'm not convinced this is totally color accurate (Red Wedding is definitely not orange), but it demonstrates the opacity difference really nicely. To my eyes, The Blood of My Enemies looks pretty close in color to (sadly discontinued) This Is Halloween, though obviously much more opaque.

Despite the feathering, I'm really happy with this new gloss from the Shiro team. I love how much pigment they managed to pack in without affecting performance or comfort. I'm crossing my fingers that the team maintains this opaque gloss trend and expands their permanent line to include a larger variety of colors!
