Hey everyone! As always, the first of the month brings us a new Color of the Month from Shiro Cosmetics and a couple new releases from Detrivore Cosmetics. It's my understanding the previous Detrivore LE releases have been "resurrected" shades from the brand's old line, but from this month on, they'll be brand new shades.

We've got two beautiful mattes from Detrivore and a truly stunning duochrome from Shiro this time around. Let's take a look!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the website: December’s Color of the Month is Aurora Borealis, inspired by the ever-shifting beauty of the northern lights.

Cool deep purple with a turquoise shift and scattering of pinky-purple glitter. Suggestion by Isabela R.

Ingredients: mica, carnauba wax, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, tin oxide, calcium aluminum borosilicate, ultramarines, silicon dioxide. Not lip-safe.

Personal Comments: If you like duochromes, you'll love this shade. The base color is a dark, cool-toned purple. It's got a beautiful teal duochrome and scattered pink sparkles. The duochrome shows up over bare skin, but more as flashy teal sparkles than a full duo overlay effect. As you'd expect from such a dark and glittery shade, I got some sparkly teal and dark purple fallout when applying this over just a silicone base. For reference, the swatch collage above shows swatches done over Urban Decay Primer Potion and Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy with photos taken in natural lighting.

Let's take a closer look at the shift:

Finally, I'm kind of ashamed to post something so blurry, but after dozens of photos in three or four different types of light this is the most accurate photo I got of the color and strength of the teal shift:

It's seriously pretty you guys. And if you need more photos, I think the Shiro team did an excellent job capturing this shade in their website swatch photo. If you like darker shades or duochromes, I can't recommend this one enough.

From the website: Vegan, Lip Safe

Muted rosey blush tone with a soft matte finish.

Ingredients: serecite mica, iron oxide, titanium dioxide, magnesium myristrate.

Personal Comments: My brain keeps calling this a very muted peach, because it's predominantly a soft pastel orange with perhaps a bit of pink. I'm not convinced there's enough pink to call it a rosey blush, but we're splitting hairs here. Both this and Foul have the same lovely, soft texture and easy blending I've come to expect from Detrivore's mattes.

From the website: Vegan, Lip Safe

Warm caramely nude with a soft matte finish.

Ingredients: serecite mica, iron oxide, titanium dioxide, magnesium myristrate.

Personal Comments: Warm caramely nude is a good way to describe this shade. It also makes me think of sand. I have roughly NC15 skin (alternatively, Meow Sleek Korat) and Foul is one or two shades darker than my skin tone. It also appears to be a little warmer than my skin tone. As I said about Defiled, this has the same beautiful texture and excellent performance that I feel comes standard with Detrivore's matte shades.

The two Detrivore shades look pretty similar up there, so here's a side by side photo:

Detrivore shades from left to right: Foul, Defiled (both over Urban Decay Primer Potion and shot in natural light)

As you can see, they're both light and warm neutrals, but Foul leans more tan (brown undertones) while Defiled leans more peachy (orange undertones).

So those are the new Shiro and Detrivore shades for December 2014! I'd love to hear what you think of them!
