Hey everyone! As always, I'm excited to show you the June 2015 Color of the Month from Shiro Cosmetics. This shade is based on a Marvel comic book character, so it's got some very cool label art. Let's take a look!

Disclosure note: This eyeshadow was a press sample provided by the brand for review.

Shiro Cosmetics Color of the Month COTM Scarlet Witch

From the website: June’s Color of the Month is Scarlet Witch, inspired by psionic badass Wanda Maximoff! Soft mid-grey base with a strong red shift, difficult to capture on camera, much stronger in person. Color suggestion by Princess Ismya.

Ingredients: mica, titanium dioxide, magnesium myristrate, iron oxide, tin oxide, copper powder, silicon dioxide. Lip-safe!

Personal Comments: Scarlet Witch is a beautiful soft gray. If my eyes don't deceive me it has slight blue undertones; my brain keeps trying to categorize it as a very desaturated military blue. The red shift actually appears pinky-red to my eyes, but makes for a beautiful contrast against the cool-toned base. I have to admit, I wouldn't necessarily describe the shift as strong. I saw a smattering of pink sparkles in the primer swatch in direct sunlight, but if you want to see the shift indoors you'll definitely need a glitter glue. From left to right, the swatches above are: swiped over bare skin, patted over Urban Decay Primer Potion, patted over UDPP + Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy. The photo was taken in partial sunlight.

Though you can see the shift softly emerging at the bottom of the Pixie Epoxy swatch above, full sun shows it much better. Here's an angled shot of the same swatches in direct sunlight to pull out the shift (bare skin in lower left, PE in upper right):

As you can see the shift is totally there, I just found it needed a sticky base and good light to really make a strong appearance.

I did an eye look with just this shade so you can get a sense of how it looks on the face. I started with UDPP, blended Scarlet Witch through the crease and along the lower lashline, and patted it over Pixie Epoxy on the lid. Here's how it looks in partial sunlight:

And here's how the same eye look appears in full, direct sunlight:

In summary - it's definitely not the strongest duochrome I own, but the combination of pinky-red and soft gray is beautiful and well worth the trouble of pulling out a glitter base.
