Hey everyone! This month we have two Colors of the Month from Shiro Cosmetics. Both shades are based on the photo of a blue and black dress which took the internet by storm in late February. The Shiro team made a matching set of blue and gold eyeshadows to correspond to this perceptual party trick. Let's take a look!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the website: Black base with an almost metallic shimmery blue overlay. Matches the color of that dress, for sure.

Ingredients: mica, carnauba wax, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, tin oxide. Lip-safe!

Personal Comments: Team Blue/Black reminds me a bit of a deep blue version of Nightfury, a previous Color of the Month which I reviewed here, though with a darker black base. It's dark enough that it looks more or less black until it catches the light, at which point it takes on a lovely dark blue shine. I think the site description of "almost metallic" is apt. The blue is the first to go when you blend it out, so you're left with a haze of soft black. The blue overlay stands out almost as well over bare skin as over a sticky base, which is very cool!

From the website: Soft pale white-gold with subtle golden flecks. Just like the color that that dress totally, definitely is.

Ingredients: mica, carnauba wax, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, tin oxide, bronze powder, silicon dioxide. Lip-safe!

Personal Comments: Team White/Gold is gorgeous! Over bare skin or silicone primer it's a slightly sheer composition of a ton of tiny sparkles, but over a sticky base they join forces to form a soft finish that catches the light beautifully. On my skin tone (roughly NC15 in MAC terms) it's a nicely brightening wash of color on my eyelids. It also makes a pretty inner corner highlight, though it was way too sparkly to work as a browbone highlight for my taste. The only downside to this shade is it's got some pretty serious fallout unless you're working with a sticky base. Other than that, I'm really happy with it.

I did an eye look with both shadows, very loosely inspired by this video tutorial from iheartmakeup92. It's way out of my comfort zone and definitely not my best work, but since the point is to show you how the shadows look on the eyeballs (and since you've probably figured out this isn't exactly a blog for stunning eyeshadow art!) I'll show you the pics:

This look features Shiro Team White/Gold on the lid (over Pixie Epoxy) and in the inner corner, Blackbird Dog Days in the crease, Shiro Team Blue/Black on the lower lashline (applied wet), some amateur liner work with Milani's Liquid Eye pencil in Black, and Blinc's original formula mascara. I filled in my brows with Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil in Medium Brown.

I also did some swatches of the colors over bare skin so you can see how they compare to our usual primer + sticky base swatches:

So there we have the two colors of the month for March 2015! If you want to purchase them both, you can pick 'em up for a small discount here, under a listing appropriately named Team Both. The listing description made me giggle so I'll share it here: "The dress changed color before your very eyes. You wonder if you’re going mad. You've wondered for a long time." Words of wisdom from the brand that brought you Nic Cage in a bustier.

(I kid because I love!)

What do you think of these two shades?
