By Unknown Whenever somebody asks where they should start if they want to try an indie brand, Meow Cosmetics is always my first recommendation. They have one of the largest variety and selection of products I've seen from an indie brand and are a great one-stop shop.

Some products in their original packaging. It took a lot of will power for me to photograph this before opening it!

Packaging: My orders have all arrived in a padded envelope, with everything in good condition. Products are consolidated into a funky beige-y organza bag with a blue leopard print. Jars are sealed with plastic shrink-wrapping. Jars with sifters have a sticky plastic seal covering the holes, and ingredients are listed on the bottom of the jar.

Sealed jars

Selection: There are 86 foundation shades (probably what they are most famous far) and over 300 eyeshadow shades. They also offer blushes, bronzers, concealers, primers and finishing powders, brow powders, accessories, and brushes.

Some products available from Meow Cosmetics' massive store: 3oz Pampered Puss Mineral Foundation, chameleon Iridescent Glow PowderPINK Inc Flamingo blushSoft Brown Brow BeaterEyeliner Sealant, Glitz Glue, and Eye Shadow Super Shine

Vegan shopping experience: Meow Cosmetics does not conduct any animal testing. If you are a vegan shopper, you may need to refer to the master product ingredient list since the ingredients are not always listed on the individual product pages.

Samples: Samples of all powder products are available for $1. Foundation and concealer samples contain 1/4 tsp, blush samples contain 1/8 tsp, and eyeshadow samples contain 1/16 tsp. Sample bags do not list ingredients.

Samples, L-R top-bottom: Tanned Tabby, toucan, Equilibrium Balancing Powder, Paradise Island, Passionate Puss, Sex Object, Euterpe, Melpomene, chilled cherry, Bora Bora

Cost: Prices range from $1 for a sample to $28.95 for a 22-30g Flawless Feline Mineral Foundation.
Kristin adds: They have sales ALL THE TIME though so make sure to watch their facebook page for them!

Customer Service: I have never been in contact with them personally, however, they don't always seem to respond to inquiries via their Facebook page (not to say this is bad customer service, issues could have been resolved privately through private message or email but it's something that struck me as unusual, especially for questions that multiple people may have e.g. when is product x coming out).

TAT: On their website, Meow Cosmetics states: "We are proud that 90% of all our orders ship within 3-5 business days, though we do get very busy during special promotions. Please allow 5-10 business days for us to fill and process your order, though most orders will ship sooner." My last order was during a big sale and was shipped 5 days after I had placed it, which I was very impressed with.

Swatches of some products I randomly chose, top row in direct sunlight, bottom row in the shade, L-R: Iced Watermelon blush swatched heavily (L) and blended out (R), Soft Brown Brow Beater, Bora Bora eyeshadow, Meow Feliner applied with a cotton bud wet with Eyeliner Sealant, OMG eyeshadow, Illuminate blush

Shipping: Shipping costs vary, starting at $4.35 for US orders containing samples only, $8 for Canada and $8.95 for international shipping. You can see further details about shipping options and costs here. Note - Meow Cosmetics often has free shipping codes (even free international shipping!) so be sure to check around their website, their Facebook page, Twitter page, or sign up for the Meow CatCall Newsletter to get the best deals. My last order reached me in Australia in just 12 business days (and since I had placed it during a sale with free international shipping it was a double win for me!)

Personal thoughts: Meow Cosmetics is definitely doing something right, having such a large and successful indie business. My one tiny complaint is that the website could be easier to navigate, and it took me awhile to get the hang of it when I first visited. A search bar would make navigation much easier, especially for return customers wishing to purchase specific items. And as I mentioned earlier, checking their Facebook, Twitter, or signing up for the CatCall Newsletter is a great way to find out about sales. Meow Cosmetics has some fantastic sales with generous discount and shipping codes; the first sale I participated in was an Easter Egg hunt sale last year (in which I became rather familiar with the website, trying to find an egg with the best discount code!). Meow Cosmetics also has some really fun themed and seasonal collections, and since it's currently October, their Halloween Shoppe is open, which includes their elusive Friday the 13th collection that is only available on Friday the 13th and during the month of October. I've seen some amazing reviews and swatches of this collection so if anything piques your interest, definitely order them while you can!

Have you tried any Meow Cosmetics products? What are some of your favourites?
