Jessye Gets Bubbly! Shiro Cosmetics' Palm Oil-Free Soap!

Shiro Cosmetics
Soap?! Hells yea!

So I started this crusade against palm oil, which has led to switching mostly back to whipped soaps because it’s easy. And I like easy.

Luckily, I’ve got some awesome friends looking out for me and enabling me to spend my money. XD AG noticed that Shiro had some bar soaps posted on their Etsy shop…and it didn’t have palm oil listed as an ingredient. Well that needs to be purchased.

I’m really glad I did. I like having bar soap around, if only for around my sink. And my supply has been so low since I transitioned.

In general, palm oil-free soap doesn’t always respond as well with cold water. A good tip is that with bar soap lacking palm oil- the hotter the water, the more it suds. That’s pretty true of soap with palm oil in it too, just less so.

From the website:
This scent is bright and crisp, strong on the orange and fig, with added sweetness from the apple and just a hint of warm depth from the darker notes
This is an amazing fall scent. The fig, the cider. Ugh! I am in full-on “Crave Cold Weather” mode just thinking about it. I am keeping the bar for when it’s starts to get chilly. It’s going to be amazing. It’s actually pretty lightly scented for as many scent notes as it has. Subtle, but tangy.

I cut off a thick slice to try for you and it naturally split on a color break, which isn’t a big deal for me. The rest of the bar will be used as one chunk, so I won’t be cutting it again like I did to try it for you guys. I’ve been really enjoying this soap and have found myself ignoring the other soaps I have around my sink for this guy.

Jessye Gets Bubbly! Future Primitive Introduces a Palm Oil Free Bar Soap!

Future Primitive Soap Library

Future Primitive
Palm Oil Free Bar Soap

Recently, Future Prim has begun making palm oil free bar soap in small batches. If you were one of the lucky ones to get your hands on a bar, Congratulations! I happened to, too. Happily in Library- I’m a sucker for book scents.

Future Primitive Soap Library

As you can see from the packaging, it got a makeover; the bar soap now residing in a stickered bag that is all things adorable. I don’t know if the palm oil soap also got a makeover since I’m not purchasing, but I do love this bag. It fits perfectly into the Future Prim packaging theme.

Future Primitive Soap Library

So first the ingredients:
Sodium cocoate, Sodium olivate, Sodium ricebranate, Sodium castorate, Sodium cocoa butterate, Sodium kokum butterate, Sodium mango butterate, Aqua, Parfum, Benzyl benzoate, Benzyl alcohol.
I did a lot of Googling. There are a lot of fatty acid salts in this soap. Which is great. I wouldn’t recognize this as a bar soap made nontraditional, had I not known. It works just as wonderfully as every other bar of soap I have purchased from FP. I would note: that like most bar soaps, it can feel a bit drying. But I am consuming it just as quickly as every other bar of soap I have ordered from FP.

The Scent:
A darkened old library filled with antiqued oak shelving, leather bound books, and secret parchment scrolls. A warm sun casts beams of light on parquet flooring, creating a resinous aroma of dark spices and herbs, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli, and moss.
I saw at least one post about this scent, but I feel like there was more. She explains how she was attempting to encompass the library itself, an old building full of old scents, dark and resinous. And she does it beautifully. In the shower, this smells deeply of resins, like the old stain and lacquer on shelves. It’s not about the freshly cut wood scent, but about the smell of an antique desk, or rows upon rows of antique bookshelves and musty older books. It is a scent that one could wander through and glory in for a lifetime, if not at least every shower while the bar lasts.

Final Thoughts

I missed out on the whipped body butter, but believe me if it comes back in stock, I am snagging one up immediately. Did any of you manage to grab one? I’d love to know what you think of it! Or any of the other palm free oil soaps? With only one per customer, there are other scents that I have not gotten my hands on! Let us know if you have and what you think of it- We’d love to hear from you!

Jessye Paints the Town! Thoughts on Black Phoenix Trading Post's Nail Polishes! (warning: photo-heavy)

Black Phoenix Trading Post
Nail Polish Swatches and Impressions

These are from a mix of collections. One from the General Catalogue, one from the Autumn Catalogue, and three from the Crimson Peak Collection. I have had great experiences with these nail polishes- they are of great quality and last about a week with a good top coat, and the time without a top coat is not much shorter than that. None of these photos were taken with a top coat on the nail polish, and all were painted with 2 coats.

Belladonna
General Catalogue

Queen of poisons: a royal, inky violet.
Personal Notes: (taken in shade and direct light) This is a deep creamy purple that in certain lights can look black, but resists as a deep fathomless purple. No glitter here.

Pumpkin Spice Everything
Autumn Catalogue

A raucous, fiery glitter, all pumpkin orange with glints of vine-green.
Personal Notes:  (taken in shade and indirect light) This is the quintessential idea of a glitter bomb in nail polish form. This lacks an undercolor- but even on its own, you won’t notice. There is actually that much glitter in this nail polish. It is a glorious bright orange with little bits of green.

The color of past glories awash in rage and terror: brick-red shimmer flecked with deep bronze.
Personal Notes: (taken in shade and indirect light) This is such a deep red that in certain lights it looks brown. It is deep and dark with just a hint of shimmer and shine.

The shimmering blue of midnight, ancient scars, and stifled whispers flickering with the metallic gleam of shadowed knives.

Temptation
Crimson Peak Collection

A deep currant crème, the war within the heart.
Personal Notes: (taken in direct light) This is a deep, dark red. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a crème, or just the saturation of the dyes. You can see where 2 coats worked great on my index finger, but not so much on the other fingers. It will take a little finesse to get a good finish with this color.
